The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region to be honored by The Food Pantries for the Capital District as Outstanding Community Partner at the 4th Annual Harvest Evening Celebration

The Food Pantries for the Capital District will honor The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region as Outstanding Community Partner at the 4th Annual Harvest Evening Celebration on Thursday, October 8. The award will be presented at 6:35 p.m. at Revolution Hall, 425 River Street, Troy, NY 12180. Presenting sponsors for Harvest Evening Celebration are A.O.W. Associates and Fagan Associates, Inc.

“The Food Pantries is an excellent example of how nonprofit organizations can leverage donations and partnerships into measureable impact,” said Karen Bilowith, President and CEO, the Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region. “The Community Foundation applauds their mission of feeding the hungry in the Capital Region, and we are proud to support their efforts and partner with them.”

The Community Foundation for the Greater Capital Region facilitates community transformation through the stewardship of charitable endowments, superior donor services, effective grant making and leadership to address community needs. The Food Pantries continues to be a recipient of numerous Community Foundation funds, which have supported important community resources, including food delivery, infant needs programming and capacity building.

“Harvest Evening celebrates all the work we have accomplished, while acknowledging there is still much more to be done,” says Natasha Pernicka, Executive Director of The Food Pantries for the Capital District. “With more than one in ten of our community members struggling with having enough resources for food, support from The Community Foundation is important in fulfilling our mission of working together to feed the hungry in our communities, and we are grateful for that support.”

Harvest Evening Celebration will also host a Chefs’ Competition, in which local chefs compete using typical food pantry items. This year’s competitors include chefs from Athos Greek Restaurant, Brown’s Brewing Co., Honest Weight Food Co-op, The Point Restaurant & Lounge and Whole Foods Market. The event is open to the public and tickets can be purchased at the door.

“The Chefs’ Competition at Harvest Evening is an opportunity for our local chefs to show innovation and creativity with food pantry staples,” says Ms. Pernicka. “Challenging our chefs in this way is a draw for our guests, who are eager to learn the chefs’ recipes to turn pantry staples into delicious dishes for their families.”
