SI Group Renovating HQ to Attract Young, Diverse Talent

The Albany Business Review reported this week that Frank Bozich is positioning SI Group to go after a bigger share of what he sees as a growing demand for additives used in everything from plastics and rubber to fuel and lubricants.

To be successful, there is one thing the CEO of one of the Albany, New York region’s largest manufacturing companies is going to need more of — a pipeline of young talent.

The family-owned company was founded 110 years ago by a former chief chemist at General Electric. Since then, it has grown to $1.6 billion in annual sales with 2,700 employees across 21 chemical and resin manufacturing plants around the world.

SI Group’s headquarters is located on a 90-acre campus in Niskayuna, where a total of 208 engineers, scientists, finance, accounting, executive and human resources staff work. Another 185 employees work at a manufacturing plant in nearby Rotterdam Junction making adhesives and resins for kitchen sponges and brake pads.

The company’s headquarters is becoming increasingly diverse, recruiting people from China, Brazil, Switzerland, Canada, India, Montenegro, Serbia and Thailand.

“We are in growth mode,” said Brooke Manrique, SI Group’s senior director of global talent development, brand and communications. “From a talent acquisition perspective, that means we need to figure out how to make sure this is a fun and inviting place to work.
