SEFCU celebrates Cinco de MasterCard® in branches

Credit union upgrades to MasterCard and announces the addition of chip technology

Albany, NY – (May 5, 2015) – SEFCU, one of the largest credit unions in upstate New York, recently announced to members that their debit cards will be upgraded from Visa® to MasterCard® beginning this spring.  As part of this, members will enjoy improved security through the addition of chip technology which makes it difficult for the card to be copied or counterfeited because the information is encrypted.

On Cinco de Mayo (May 5), all SEFCU branches will be celebrating the upgrade to MasterCard and the addition of chip technology by serving “chips” and salsa to members. In addition, staff is available to answer member questions about the new cards and Apple Pay™ tutorials are available to show members how to register and use the convenient payment service.

The credit union will also upgrade all credit cards from Visa to MasterCard, with all members receiving their new credit card by late-summer.

Established in 1934, today SEFCU is among the 50 largest credit unions in the U.S. with more than $2.75 billion in assets, over 300,000 members, and 47 branches in the Capital Region, Binghamton, Syracuse, and Buffalo. In addition to full service retail and commercial banking products and services, SEFCU is committed to supporting the community through the donation of time and talent of its staff and members, as well as monetary contributions to help people and make an impact in the communities it serves.  Find us on Facebook® and follow us on Twitter®.
