Schenectady Stockade Walkabout, Saturday, September 23, 2017

Mark your calendars! Schenectady’s 56th Historic Stockade Walkabout will be held Saturday, September 23, 2017, from 11am to 5 pm. The Stockade is the oldest registered historic district in New York State. The Stockade Walkabout grants visitors the rare opportunity to step inside some of the district’s historic homes. The Brouwer House, included in the tour, dates back 300 years and is considered one of two oldest houses in Schenectady. Sharing this distinction is 109 Union Street, 18th century home of Abraham Yates. The Stately Greek revival at 108 Union St., built in 1831, served as the county courthouse and jail, a school, as the Board of Education, and as an insurance company. It has recently been converted into luxury apartments, retaining some of the old historic treasures like brick and stone walls and tin ceilings. The Walkabout also features music and costumed characters strolling throughout the neighborhood, exhibits at the Schenectady County Historical Society, guided walking tours and more.

Advance tickets are on sale at the Historic Stockade website, www.historicstockade.com and at the Schenectady County Historical Society, Proctor’s ticket office, Open Door Bookstore, Nott Street Office, 2215 Nott St. and Kulak’s Nursery. Tickets the day of the event will be on sale in front of the Schenectady County Historical Society.
