Music Haven Hosts Annual Summer Social

Invitations are in the mail for Music Haven’s Annual Summer Social, set for Sunday, August 9 with a 5 PM Dinner at the Thomas Isabella Picnic Pavilion in Schenectady’s Central Park. Dinner will be followed by a concert in the Music Haven Stage featuring Felicia Collins, longtime guitarist and vocalist on David Letterman’s Late Show who grew up in Albany. Special guests Bobbie Van Detta & The Split will open the show. A decadent Back Stage Dessert Afterglow winds up the evening for event patrons. As always, Music Haven concerts are free and open to the public.

Dinner will feature global catered stations reflecting several of the places of origin of the current summer’s lineup of artists – New York City, Indonesia, Great Britain, Peru, and India and Music Haven’s mission – “Traveling the World One Concert at a Time” – as its theme.

Anthony Adonnino and Home Style Catering will coordinate the international menu of specialty foods and authentic ethnic dishes to include a collection of British cheeses from Somerdale International, LTD; Peruvian empanadas from GOYA Foods; a New York carving station with tenderloin of beef and turkey breast, summer salads; Indonesian Bakmi Goreng (stir fried noodles with cabbage, bok choy and sweet soy sauce) and Ikan (salmon poached with saffron, tamarind and lemongrass) from Yono’s Restaurant; and Chicken Tikka Masala (Tandoori chicken Tikka in onion and tomato gravy), Paneer Palak (mildly spiced spinach stewed with tender chunks of Indian cheese), basmati rice and naan (traditional flatbread baked in a clay oven) from Sitar Restaurant. The open bar will include local craft beers, NYS wines and popular soft drinks. The backstage dessert Afterglow backstage will feature We Do Fondue’s chocolate fountain with fresh fruit and other ‘dippables’, Italian pastries and cookies from Villa Italia, Prosecco, coffee and tea.

Attire is summer casual. All proceeds will benefit the Music Haven Concert Series. The 2015 Summer Social Honoree is Joanne DeVoe, a tireless community cheerleader who has generously given of her time and talent since serving on the task force to build the new Agnes Macdonald Music Haven Stage back in 1997. The rain site is Proctors.
The Gala Committee, chaired by Mona Golub, includes Kay Ackerman, Thom Cammer, Joanne DeVoe, Hillary Fink, Eileen Handelman, Carmel Patrick and Betsy Sandberg.
