Metroplex Board Approves Four Projects

The Board of Directors of the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority met this evening and approved four projects to support jobs and investment in Schenectady County.

The Board approved a $95,000 grant to support the relocation of ICPD to 245 Broadway in Downtown Schenectady.   ICPD is a growing pharmaceutical testing company that will move 15 jobs to Schenectady with offices and labs in 17,000 square feet of space in a new $8 million building under construction in downtown Schenectady at 242 Broadway. The building will feature office space plus 39 upscale apartments right in the heart of downtown near Proctors. The 242 Broadway project is being built by J. Luke Construction Company of Rotterdam, NY. ICPD will also be a co-owner of the building.

The Board also approved $185,000 to improve lighting and signage at the Metroplex-owned parking garage at 220 Broadway in downtown Schenectady.  New energy efficient LED lighting will be installed at the five-story parking facility including new lighted stair towers. LED lights will also be installed adjacent to the main entrance to the garage.  Two signs will also be upgraded.  The 1,200 car garage is used by downtown workers and is also available for movies, entertainment and shows at Proctors.

For the Mohawk Harbor project –Schenectady’s $480 million riverfront project –the board authorized submitting applications to National Grid for up to $750,000 in funding to support utility infrastructure work and energy efficient lighting.

On lower State Street, a contract with CHA Associates was approved for $54,000 to survey and design the last phase of street light and sidewalk improvements on lower State Street from South Church Street to Washington Avenue. This block is where the former Y is located at 13 State Street. The former Y is being transformed into 61 senior apartments by Norstar Development and Metroplex is helping to improve the sidewalks and lighting in front of the building.

Ray Gillen, Metroplex Chair said, “We are pleased to move forward with these new projects downtown and at Mohawk Harbor leveraging major investments in new buildings such as the $8 million building under construction at 242 Broadway and the $17 million investment in renovations at 13 State Street.”
