Schenectady Youth Summit Set for May 25

The Schenectady Youth Summit will be held on May 25, 2016 from 8:15 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Proctors.  The conference theme“Keep It Real:  Shaping a Community that Cares about its Youth,” is a full-day event bringing together 400 educators, community members, business leaders and youth to explore how we can improve the success of our young people in school, in the community and in employment. We will address our community’s progress since the launch of the Call to Action for Youth last fall, identify commitments we must make – and steps we must take – to close the achievement gap for young under-resourced community members.

This is an absolutely crucial priority for our community, one that requires the attention and resources of a multi-sector collaboration.

Schenectady is proud to be one of only five cities in NYS to have been selected as a community summit host by America’s Promise Alliance and its GradNation initiative. General Colin Powell was America’s Promise founding Chairman, and it is the nation’s largest multi-sector alliance focused on the well-being of young people. GradNation is an initiative of America’s Promise launched in 2010 with a goal to achieve a nation-wide 90% high school graduation rate by the Class of 2020. Together, we are trying to raise the level of success for all students.
