ILCHV Announces This Year’s Recipients of the Beacon Leadership Award

The Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley (ILCHV) recently announced its annual Beacon Leadership Award recipients.   The Beacon Leadership Award is given to individuals who have demonstrated their commitment to equal rights for people with disabilities.  This year’s awardees are VENT Fitness, for implementing polices of inclusion of people with disabilities in all its programs and sites; the Seymour Fox Foundation for its support of programs that empower people with disabilities, and to Denise DiNoto, for her lifetime of advocacy. Denise A. Figueroa, Executive Director, noted” ILCHV has worked for thirty years to eliminate barriers in the Capital Region.  Our success is due in part to the work of the partners we will honor on May 9th.”

Awards will be presented on May 9th at ILCHV’s 23rd annual Dessert Spectacular at Franklin Plaza in Troy.  The event will take place from 5:30 to 8:30; the Honorable Michael McNulty is the event chair who will be joined by Benita Zahn from WNYT, the MC for the evening; live music will be provided by West Side Drive.  Throughout the evening attendees can indulge in desserts from the Capital Region’s best restaurants and bakeries and bid on over 50 silent auction items, while supporting the Independent Living Center of the Hudson Valley. Admission to the event is $40, with a reduced price of $10 available for consumers, students, and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling 518-274-0701 or you can pay at the door.

Since 1987, the ILCHV has fostered independence for individuals with disabilities who live in the capital region by providing direct outreach, empowerment and education.  The energetic and committed staff advocates for the rights of people with diverse disabilities and foster their independence.
