October 28, 2015Hudson Valley Viking Fans Invited to Last Home Football Game on Existing Field; New Outdoor Athletic Complex Construction Begins in Spring
The Hudson Valley Community College football team (5-2) will play its final game on its current field, against Navy Prep on Saturday, October 31 at noon, while looking forward to the 2016-17 season on a new synthetic turf field and Outdoor Athletic Complex. Students, faculty, staff, alumni and friends are invited to enjoy the game, take photos on the field and preview plans for the new facility.
The new complex, to be located adjacent to the Joseph L. Bruno Baseball Stadium on the site of existing football and soccer/lacrosse fields, was recently granted $1.5 million from the state of New York in start-up funding. The college’s Faculty Student Association is providing matching funds. Construction begins in spring 2016 with completion expected by the fall semester.
Design plans call for the complex to feature a 400m, eight-lane track; a synthetic turf field; a natural grass practice field; concession, box office, maintenance and restroom facilities; an electronic score board; sports lighting; and grandstand and bleacher seating.
In April 2015, the college’s Board of Trustees approved CHA Companies, formerly known as Clough Harbour & Associates, to design the complex. CHA has designed athletic facilities for more than 100 schools, colleges, universities and other organizations across the nation. One of its most recent local projects was the Christian Plumeri Sports Complex for The College of Saint Rose.
The brand new state-of-the-art facility will provide expanded athletic and exercise opportunities not only for students, but also for faculty and staff, as well as members of the surrounding community.
Other advantages of the new facility include lower level maintenance, especially for the synthetic turf field serving athletics and intramural sports; improved and expanded facilities for students taking physical education courses; the opportunity for the college to host local, state and national athletic contests on high school and collegiate levels; space for teams to practice; and facilities for summer camp programs.
Corporations and individuals are invited to take advantage of the many opportunities to donate to this complex and be a part of the effort to further the college’s mission. Naming opportunities exist for the many features of the complex.
Founded in 1953, Hudson Valley Community College offers more than 80 associate degree and certificate programs in four schools: Business; Engineering and Industrial Technologies; Health Sciences; and Liberal Arts and Sciences; and an Educational Opportunity Center for academic and career training. One of 30 community colleges in the State University of New York system, it has an enrollment of more than 12,000 students, and is known as a leader in distance learning initiatives and workforce training. Hudson Valley has more than 75,000 alumni.
