Fun Activities for Families at the Albany Institute of History and Art

The Albany Institute of History & Art is excited to host a fun-filled family day on Sunday, September 20, as part of the opening weekend of their new exhibition, The Capital Region in 50 Objects. The event will run from 12 noon – 4:30 p.m. and is included with regular museum admission.

Families from throughout the Capital Region are invited to the museum to explore the new exhibition with a special gallery scavenger hunt, to make art in the Art Studio, to get their faces painted, and hear a guest storyteller. Activities are inspired by the objects on view in The Capital Region in 50 Objects.

This first family program will highlight two early selections into the show: a contemporary Iroquois Cradleboard and the iconic Nipper the RCA dog that looks over the city of Albany from his perch on top of a building on Broadway.

Most activities will explore Iroquois culture in New York, specifically through traditional storytelling and contemporary art.

Plus, if the weather cooperates, the museum will host a Nipper look-alike contest for dogs which will be judged by Paul Grondahl, author of the recent book Great Dogs of Albany and Beyond. Grondahl will also sign copies of his book, which will be available for sale in the museum shop.

This event is funded, in part, by Bank of America Foundation. These activities (descriptions and schedule follows) will excite and engage all ages and interests!
