First New York to Offer College Scholarships

First New York Federal Credit Union will issue three $1,000 scholarships this spring. Applications for the scholarship must be submitted by the March 7, 2016 deadline. Applicants must: be a member in good standing with First New York Federal Credit Union, be a graduating high school senior, plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college and be active or volunteer within their community.

To accompany the application, students will need to submit a 250-word essay describing what motivates them and why, along with a letter of reference commenting on their character and abilities. A copy of the student’s high school transcript and a resume detailing honors, awards received, leadership roles and extra-curricular activities will also need to be included with the application.

Selected finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee to determine the three scholarship winners. Winners will be notified by April 18, 2016 and will be invited to an awards ceremony on May 19, 2016 when they will be presented with their scholarships.

First New York Federal Credit Union was founded in 1937 as Schenectady Teachers Federal Credit Union and operates six full-service branches throughout the greater Capital Region.
