First New York to Offer College Scholarships

First New York Federal Credit Union will issue four $1,000 scholarships this spring. Applications for the scholarship must be submitted by the March 9, 2018 deadline. Applicants must: be a member in good standing with First New York Federal Credit Union, be a graduating high school senior, plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college and be active or volunteer within their community.

Interested students can complete the application at http://www.firstnewyork.org/home/accounts/youth/scholarships. To accompany the application, students will need to submit a 250-word essay describing what motivates them and why, along with a letter of reference commenting on their character and abilities. A copy of the student’s high school transcript and a resume detailing honors, awards received, leadership roles and extra-curricular activities will also need to be included with the application.

“We take great pride in helping students reach their educational, career and financial goals.  As a teachers’ credit union, we will continue to do all we can to help them now and throughout their lives,” commented Lucy Halstead, President/CEO for First New York Federal Credit Union.

Selected finalists will be interviewed by the Scholarship Committee to determine the four scholarship winners. Winners will be notified by April 20, 2018 and will be invited to an awards ceremony on May 17, 2018 when they will be presented with their scholarships.
