Excelsior College Announces New VP of Human Resources

Mark HoweExcelsior College, one of the nation’s leading nonprofit, online and distance learning institutions, announced today, Mark Howe, as vice president, Human Resources effective December 9. Howe replaces James Lettko, who has been with Excelsior College since August 2014 and will lead a yet-to-be named new Washington, D.C.-based initiative for the College. Lettko worked with the Board of Trustees, the President, the executive team and human resource professionals to promote the exceptional performance and retention of Excelsior’s employees nationwide.

Howe recently served as vice president, Human Resources, for Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, a global learning provider of pre-K-12 education content with 4,300 employees. Howe comes to Excelsior College with more than 20 years of senior level business and human resources experience in talent management and acquisition, learning & development, executive coaching, business and culture transformation. His career includes time at Cengage Learning, Delmar Learning, Matthew Bender & Co, Inc. (Lexis Nexis).

Howe stated, “I always try to serve as a business partner, working to create environments where people can have a positive impact on the organization and its customers, while reaching their own personal potential. I look forward to working with Excelsior College’s talented Human Resources team as well as the leadership team and all employees.”
Outside of work, Howe has been involved with Make-A-Wish Foundation of NENY and served on the Board of Directors.

Howe is a graduate of Cornell University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He also received his Master’s in Business Administration in Human Resources Information Systems from the State University of New York at Albany.

Howe resides with wife Ann and their three kids, Ethan, Megan and Braden, in East Greenbush, NY.
