Davies Office Featured in Video at International Innovation Festival

Davies Office, headquartered in Albany NY, was featured in a video and presentation delivered at The Disruptive Innovation Festival curated by The Ellen MacArthur Foundation November 10, 2015. The festival runs three weeks long and offers over 200 sessions on all the ways individuals, companies and organizations are challenging the linear ‘take make and dispose’ model of the economy, replacing it by a more prosperous regenerative and circular economy.

Davies Office was chosen as a prime example of how remanufacturing is a key enabler to a circular economy – offering significant economical and environmental advantages. The circular economy is an economic concept that falls within sustainable development and its objective is that of producing goods and services while limiting consumption and waste of raw materials, water and energy sources. There is strong evidence that transitioning to a circular economy can lead to higher economic growth while reducing the impact on the environment.

The presentation and video that highlighted Davies Office “Closing the Loop on Office Furniture” was given by Jennifer Russell, a PhD student and researcher at Golisano Institute for Sustainability at Rochester Institute of Technology. Ms. Russell stated “Millions of people around the world work in a traditional office cubicle everyday, and every year hundreds of companies upgrade their office furniture. Rather than millions of traditional cubicles being sent to landfill, we profile how Davies Office intervened to create a Circular Economy value proposition: Custom design, remanufactured office furniture that exceeds industry specifications, all at a lower cost to the customer, and to the environment.”

“We are thrilled to be included in this important global discussion. Remanufacturing specifically offers substantial benefits to rising global resource challenges and environmental protection. Not only will the video be shown at the festival but it will also be used to get students, educators, and the general public to understand remanufacturing and its role in the circular economy,” commented Bill Davies, President of Davies Office.
