Colonie Youth Center Unveils Cornerstone Club Plaque—Commemorates Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center’s Founding Donors

The Colonie Youth Center celebrated and recognized the Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center Cornerstone Club Donors at a private reception on Sunday, January 31, 2016. Cornerstone Club Donors, current and former Colonie Youth Center Board members and many long time Colonie Youth Center supporters attended the event and enjoyed an evening of celebration, reminiscing and had their pictures taken with the new Cornerstone Club plaque.

“The event was a wonderful opportunity for us to say ‘Thank You’ to all our Cornerstone Club Donors. These are the donors who believed in the Ciccotti Center when it was just a concept,” said Nikki Caruso, Executive Director of the Colonie Youth Center that owns the Ciccotti Center.  “There was a need for a family recreation center in the Town of Colonie. We had a vision to build something that was different and had unique offerings from any other recreation center in the area.  It was the Cornerstone Club Donors’ early financial support of this vision that made the Rudy A. Cicoctti Family Recreation Center a reality for the many to enjoy today.”

Fundraising efforts began for the Ciccotti Center in 2000.  The Cornerstone Club is a special group of families, individuals and local businesses who contributed $5,000 and beyond toward the project including Rudy A. Ciccotti.  “Family and community is what matters deeply to Rudy,” said Nikki Caruso. “The Ciccotti Center shares those core values and provides a place for families and people of all ages to be active, enjoy a healthier lifestyle and a sense of community.” The Rudy A. Ciccotti Family Recreation Center opened its doors in January 2007 with nearly 3,000 members.  Fast-forward to 2016, the Ciccotti Center now has over 7,000 members and continues to thrive and innovate.  Early 2015 saw the completion of a significant locker room renovation.  In addition, the Ciccotti Center was recently awarded the special designation of being the first fitness center in New York State to be certified as a Medical Fitness Facility.
