Center Consumers & Staff to Participate in NYSID WORKS! Community Thank You Day

Employees, administrators and adult program participants with disabilities from the Center for Disability Services will take part in NYSID WORKS! a community appreciation event on Thursday, September 17. New York Industries for the Disabled, Inc., NYSID, created the statewide service day to thank New York for employing workers who have disabilities and to celebrate work by working.

Volunteers from the Center for Disability Services will conduct a beautification project at a Habitat for Humanity home, 204 Sheridan Avenue in Albany, and a second group will clean up the Capital Roots’ community garden, 261 8th Street in Troy. Between ten and 20 people from the Center will participate at each site. Area lawmakers and other dignitaries have been invited to observe the projects and lend a hand.

NYSID WORKS! participants from the Center are accustomed to giving back to the community because they volunteer on a regular basis at Meals on Wheels, Capital Roots, the Regional Food Bank, Equinox, Mohawk Hudson Humane Society and the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society.

NYSID is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a theme of “40 Years of Looking Forward.” Annually, it provides employment opportunities for more than 6,800 New Yorkers who have disabilities. NYSID has contracts with New York State agencies, public benefit corporations and other businesses to provide janitorial, document imaging, industrial laundry, office assistance and other services. It also markets products assembled, packaged and manufactured by people with disabilities.
